Leave No Trace

The Principles of Leave No Trace:

The BSA is committed to Leave No Trace, which is a nationally recognized outdoor skills and ethics awareness program. Its principles are guidelines to follow at all times.

Mission Statement:

The mission of the Leave No Trace program is to develop a nationally recognized minimim inpact backcountry educational system which educates wild land user groups federal agencies and the public through training and effective written and video materials.

Outdoor Code:

ALWAYS REMEMBER!!

· As an America, I will do my best to

·Be clean in my outdoor manners,

·Be careful with fire,

· Be considerate in the outdoors and

· Be conservation-minded

 

Outdoor Ethics:

 

 PLAN AHEAD AND PREPARE

o Prepare for rules, permits, hazards, weather and emergencies.

o Visit in small groups. Split large groups into 4-6.

o Use maps and compass. No marking of trails.

 

· TRAVEL AND CAMP ON DURABLE SURFACES

o Travel on established trails. Use established campsites.

o In pristine areas without campsites, spread out.

o Camps should be 200 ft. away from water and streams.

 

· DISPOSE OF WASTE PROPERLY

o Pack it in; pack it out.

o Use cat holes 200 ft. away from water and streams.

o Wash yourself or dishes 200 ft. away from water and streams.

 

· LEAVE WHAT YOU FIND

o Avoid transporting non-native species.

o Do not touch any historical objects

o Do not build structures or dig.

 

· MINIMIZE CAMPFIRE IMPACTS

o Use lightweight stoves.

o Use established fire ring for ground fires

. o Only have a fire at night when it is more appropriate.

o Use only enough firewood for the camp stay.

 

· RESPECT WILDLIFE

o Observe wildlife from a distance and do not feed

o Avoid wildlife during sensitive times such as when nesting, mating or with young.

 

· BE CONSIDERATE OF OTHER VISITORS

o Respect other visitors and be courteous.

o Let natures sound prevails. Avoid loud noises.

o Respect private property
